TEI provides an array of geotechnical field support services. Whether you’re planning a new structure, monitoring and maintaining current underground infrastructure, or repairing damaged subsurface facilities, TEI makes every effort to meet your needs.
Plate Load Testing provides direct performance data useful in the selection and design of shallow foundations and concrete slabs. TEI performs in-situ plate load testing in accordance with ASTM D1194 and D1196 to estimate soil bearing capacity and subgrade modulus of reaction properties.
The California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test is used to evaluate the subgrade strength of roads and pavements. CBR field testing can quickly yield a relative strength determination without having to rely on sampling and laboratory testing. TEI performs in-situ CBR testing in accordance with ASTM D4429.
The measure of water infiltration into soil is an important indication for the efficiency of drainage in newly designed and existing stormwater management systems. This testing helps determine the rate of water infiltration into soil and can also verify performance of liner materials. TEI performs the double ring infiltrometer (ASTM D3385) and gulf oil field test methods.
Thermal resistivity testing (ASTM D5334) is commonly used for the selection of buried pipe or electrical line installation. Electrical resistivity testing (ASTM G59) can be crucial in the design of a project’s grounding system. TEI performs both in-situ and laboratory thermal and electrical resistivity testing on a variety of materials.
Corrosive soil can lead to structural failure. Before beginning a project, it is important to test the corrosivity of soil to prevent potential financial stress down the line. Corrosive soil causes pipes, steel reinforcement and steel structures to corrode, even with proper corrosion protection in place. TEI has recently upgraded our laboratory equipment to perform corrosivity testing in accordance with ASTM standards, in addition to EPA standards.
Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) provides shear strength information at the surface & various depths based on the test configuration. MASW is a cost effective supplement to the traditional subsurface drilling program. Applications include wind turbine foundation design, depth of bedrock, void detection, and much more. TEI provides full service MASW investigations for various applications; e.g., wind-turbine site investigation, seismic site characterization (Vs30m), soil/bedrock mapping, target detection (voids, weak zones, bedrock valleys), among others.
TEI offers certified technicians to provide oversight during drilling for subsurface investigation programs. Our geotechnical technicians complete soil boring logs, including visual classification of split spoon samples, blow counts, ground water levels and other pertinent information required for geotechnical analyses.
